Odd Publications is an emerging publishing house that re-purposes the ephemeral nature of Internet data into tangible objects of printed form. It was founded in 2018 by programmer Darien Brito and graphic designer Jaap Smit. Driven by information and powered by code. They officialy launched their business on the 22nd of May 2019.

Together With Darien Brito, I founded a new kind of publishing house. Considering that our idea is to publish strange, digital content the name Odd Publications was quickly born. Next to a name, we needed a fresh identity that would support our projects and sell our ideas. Within the identity, the focus was on making the logo ‘type-able’ without using letters. The typeface PT Mono Bold and the bracket glyphs ()[)[) were
the perfect combination for this logo concept. With this same concept idea and chosen typeface, the iconic ODD animation was created to make the identity more playfull. These animations are now a big part of the identity and showcased on the website and different social media. The rest of the identity design was to support our projects, therefore we choose to keep the colors neutral (white on black) and the typography supportive.

To officially launch our business and first sellable book ‘A Tweet History’ we organized a launch party. For us, this was the perfect way to give Odd Publications the official start signal and with that all our future projects.
